When these receptors and chemicals bind together, they trigger a range of reactions that help to maintain homeostasis (balance) within the body. The ECS plays a role in many different functions, including mood, movement, sensation, appetite, immunity, and more.
Finally, CBD has a potentially positive impact on one’s mood and sleep. The latter is likely to be beneficial for patients living with the consequences of any chronic disease.
However, for now, many patients with Lyme disease are left struggling to manage their condition so they can lead a fulfilling life. Read on for more information about the condition’s symptoms and how CBD for Lyme disease could potentially help.
Lyme Disease Treatment
Other things to look out for include CBD that comes from organic hemp and solvent-free extraction processes such as CO2 extraction. We have published many different brand reviews here on WayOfLeaf to help guide in making a decision.
Many people use CBD as oil, which they hold under the tongue for 60–90 seconds before swallowing. Doing this allows consumers to feel the effects of CBD throughout their entire body.
So, it appears that CBD could offer patients some hope when it comes to Lyme disease treatment. However, more in-depth research is necessary to confirm precisely to what degree.
However, the possible benefits of CBD for Lyme disease don’t end there. There is some evidence that CBD has antibacterial effects. It also works as an antioxidant, helping to protect cells from damage.
CB2 is primarily anti-inflammatory and regulates the immune system. These receptors are found on a variety of white blood cells including B cells that make antibodies, T cells that fight Lyme, bacteria, and viruses, and macrophages that fight viruses. In addition to fighting infections, T cells release inflammatory cytokines that cause most Lyme symptoms. So regulating CB2 can lead to improvements in most of these symptoms.
As I write this article twenty five states in the USA allow medical marijuana use and eight all marijuana recreational use. USA federal law currently allows for the use of CBD derived from hemp in all 50 states. Unfortunately the federal government, under the Trump administration, has put out some worrisome writings that it thinks hemp should be regulated the same as marijuana. In addition, US Attorney General Sessions calls for the federal government through US Attorneys at their discretion to enforce federal marijuana laws putting an end to state recreation and medical marijuana usage.

In Washington State, medical marijuana stores were combined with recreational stores in 2017. In my experience, the bud keepers in recreational shops are generally not as skilled at finding the right medical product as bud keepers in medical marijuana stores. Fortunately, in Washington state, some stores have certification in medical marijuana. These medical certified stores tend to have bud keepers who know the medical properties of there products.
Based on the above research and what I see in my patients I recommend medical marijuana and medical cannabis for people with Lyme for the following reasons or conditions:
Kills Lyme?I am skeptical that it actually kills Lyme in any meaningful way in humans, although I am interested in this potential based on Dr. Murakami’s experiments. I have not seen improved killing of Lyme in my patients who use medical cannabis.
Taking between 60 and 100 milligrams should be the maximum per day. You can take CBD between one and three times a day, but with higher dosages, it’s best to spread it out over the day with 3 dosages verses all at once. Some people prefer taking CBD at bedtime, and those who take a little throughout the day like doing so vs. at night. It’s all about finding what is right for you.
In addition to the joint pain that comes from the inflammation around the joints, there are many other ways that Lyme disease can cause extreme discomfort. You are likely to experience intense body and muscle aches and neuropathic pain.
Perhaps the best way to treat Lyme disease is through prevention. As mentioned earlier, detection can be hard once the ticks disappear. When it comes to Lyme disease, preventing the infection from occurring, rather than treating it, is your best bet.

One of the most impressive properties of CBD is that it can provide peace of mind. Cannabidiol and other cannabinoids found in full-spectrum hemp can change the way our brains perceive pain.
The primary determining factor of how much CBD you require depends on the severity of the infection. 25 milligrams per day is being considered by users as a maintenance dosage for healthy individuals with minor pains, or mild stress, or even those with depression have found CBD helps their day like a Vitamin C tablet may. If you have a more severe condition such as Lyme disease in the early stages, you’ll need to consult with your doctor and ask if increasing your CBD intake is a good idea.
Although less common than the aforementioned symptoms, individuals who have been infected with Lyme disease may experience occasional seizures. CBD for seizures is one of the most dramatic and researched therapeutic benefits of the cannabinoid. Experts are starting to recommend using cannabidiol for seizures both at the occurrence of an episode as well as a preventative measure.
