Frequently Asked Questions

The cannabis oil that is typically available in dispensaries is THC -dominant with little cannabidiol. To extract CBD -rich cannabis oil, one must start with CBD -rich plant material. There many ways to extract oil from the cannabis plant, each has its pros and cons. Some methods are safer and more effective than others. Cannabis oils made with neurotoxic solvents like butane and hexane may leave unsafe residues that interfere with immune function and impede healing. Supercritical CO2 extraction is non-toxic and produces high quality oil, but requires significant expertise and access to expensive equipment. Home-brewers can also use safer solvents, such as ethanol, or prevent exposure to organic solvents entirely by using olive oil to extract cannabis oil, according to Dr. Arno Hazekamp director of phytochemical research at Bedrocan BV , which supplies cannabis, including a CBD -rich strain, for the Dutch Health Ministry’s medical marijuana program.

Can I get CBD from juicing raw cannabis?

By juicing or otherwise ingesting raw, unheated cannabis, one consumes THC and the other cannabinoids in their acid form. A CBD -rich strain contains CBD -acid ( CBDA ), which, when heated, becomes CBD . Unheated CBDA and unheated THCA ( THC -acid) both may have medicinal attributes, but there has been comparatively little scientific research into cannabinoid acids.

See Dosing THCA : Less Is More for more information.

Will I flunk a drug test if I medicate with CBD-rich cannabis?

Yes, you may fail a drug test even if you experience no mood-altering affects from your CBD -rich medicine. Drug tests are geared toward identifying THC , not CBD or another cannabinoid. If one medicates with CBD -rich cannabis that has a small amount of THC , the THC may register on the drug test.

How is CBD metabolized when consumed orally? Is it converted to another compound?

CBD is metabolized into an analogous compound, 7-hydroxy- CBD , by the liver. Some 6- OH – CBD may also be formed. But scientists know relatively little about the activity (or lack thereof) of these compounds. There is strong evidence that CBD does not convert to significant amounts THC in the stomach.

I reside outside the United States. How can I obtain CBD-rich remedies?

If you live in one of the 22 countries that have approved GW ’s Sativex, a fifty/fifty CBD / THC whole plant under-the-tongue spray, you may qualify for a prescription. CBD -derived from industrial hemp grown in Europe is legal and available in the European Union. The Dutch Health Ministry distributes a CBD -rich cannabis strain to patients enrolled in the Netherland’s official medical marijuana program. The official Israeli medical marijuana program also grows and dispenses CBD -rich strains. Those who live outside the USA can also visit—or coordinate with a friend or relative in—Colorado or Washington, where cannabis is legal and available for personal use for those 21 years or older. How one elects to travel with or transport their medication, which is prohibited by federal law, is their own responsibility. High quality CBD -rich products are also available in California. In order to be in receipt of any California cannabis product one must be in possession of a valid medical cannabis recommendation letter from a California physician. Some patients and/or caregivers come to California and establish a temporary California residence to obtain a California ID . With this ID , they can see a California medical cannabis expert, get a letter of recommendation, and then obtain CBD -rich medicine. A number of patients and their families have relocated to cannabis-friendly states in order to access CBD -rich medicine on a consistent basis.

Why are you trying to do more research on CBD when there are so many journal articles reporting its benefits? Don’t we already know that CBD will be effective against a variety of illnesses?

Although cannabidiol has been studied since its molecular structure was elucidated in the mid-1960s and there have been numerous CBD lab studies (using mice as test subjects), only a few clinical studies (using people as test subjects in a controlled setting) have been conducted. While these studies strongly suggest that CBD will benefit people, more real-life investigation is called for. We trust ourselves and the doctors we’re working with to do an honest job. We don’t pretend we’re not biased—we’re hoping that CBD -rich cannabis proves helpful to people in various ways. We trust ourselves, nevertheless, to report the facts as we learn them—period.

How can I participate in research?

Please take a few moments to tell us about your experiences using CBD and cannabis products. The more responses we get, the more confident we can be in the results!

How do I make CBD-rich brownies or other CBD-infused edibles?

By the same methods one would use to make any kind of cannabis-infused edible. To make a CBD -rich brownie or another CBD -rich edible, one must first extract oil from a CBD -rich strain and infuse it into olive oil, coconut oil, butter or ghee (clarified butter). These infused oils or butters are the most common ways to cook with cannabis. One will need to combine the CBD -rich plant material (usually the leafy trim) with the oil or butter and expose to low heat over a long period of time—this will help to avoid breakdown and/or vaporization of the CBD and other cannabinoids. After straining out the plant material, one can substitute CBD -rich cannabutter or canna-oil into your favorite recipes. There are many extraction recipes and tutorials available on-line, including, for example, Le Blanc Cne.

Does it matter if CBD is extracted from cannabis or industrial hemp?

We recommend CBD -rich products made using only organic, whole plant cannabis because this offers the best safety profile and superior medicinal benefits. CBD products derived from industrial hemp potentially have several potential problems: Industrial hemp typically contains far less cannabidiol than CBD -rich cannabis strains, so a huge amount of industrial hemp is required to extract a small amount of CBD . This raises the risk of contaminants as hemp is a “bio-accumulator,” meaning the plant naturally drawns toxins from the soil. Additionally, hemp-derived CBD and refined ‘pure’ CBD powder lack critical medicinal terpenes and secondary cannabinoids found in cannabis oil. These compounds interact with CBD and THC to enhance their medicinal benefits.

I have heard that CBD is the dominant cannabinoid in hemp plants. Can I just smoke or ingest hemp or ditchweed to get the healing effects of CBD?

It is true that hemp fiber or seed strains will be relatively high in CBD compared to THC , but the overall cannabinoid content of industrial hemp will probably be low. Industrial Hemp is genetically bred to produce fiber for various products or seed for omega oil and nutritional supplements. Industrial hemp is generally not bred for resin production. Without selective breeding for CBD content, CBD yields from hemp are likely to be low.

Can a grower increase CBD content by manipulating environmental factors?

Contrary to some rumors, a plant cannot be made CBD -rich if it lacks the right genetic make-up. The ratio of THC , CBD , and other cannabinoids is genetically determined, according to a study by biochemist Etienne de Meijer, Inheritance of the Cannabinoid Phenotype. A grower can, however, influence overall cannabinoid content by manipulating environmental factors—temperature, light, water acidity, and nutrients—that affect plant health.

Is growing CBD-rich cannabis any different from growing THC-dominant cannabis?

The same growing techniques apply to CBD -rich cannabis and high- THC cannabis. Much like growing high- THC strains, harvesting earlier or later can impact the cannabinoid levels as well as the terpenoid profile of the plant. For somewhat higher CBD content, try harvesting CBD plants a couple weeks earlier than one would typically harvest a high THC strain.

FAQ’s About CBD Oil & CBD Products

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the compounds, known as cannabinoids, found in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids act on cannabinoid receptors that are part of the endocannabinoid system found throughout the body. CBD is the second most abundant compound in cannabis but has none of the psychoactive properties of marijuana.

Are Hemp and Marijuana the same?

Hemp and marijuana are both types of cannabis but are genetically distinct and differ in several ways. The cultivation, chemical properties and use is how they differ. Hemp is grown and cultivated for fiber and seed to produce a variety of products including foods, oils, rope, and fabrics with less than .3% THC and is non-psychoactive. Marijuana is cultivated to yield high levels of the psychoactive ingredient THC, concentrated heavily in the flowers and buds with THC levels exceeding 20%.

How is CBD made?

Hemp oil is extracted from the stalks and stems of cannabis using solvents or with a non-toxic and non-flammable CO2 extraction method. Prevalent in the food industry, CO2 extraction eliminates the risk of solvent residues in the final product and is “generally regarded as safe” by the FDA.

Is CBD legal?

CBD companies cannot give legal advice on the legality of CBD. Consumers are encouraged to do their research on the legality of CBD. It is legal in 44 states. In 28 states where medical marijuana is legal, CBD products are covered by those same medical marijuana legal protections. In recent years, 16 states have passed CBD-only laws legalizing the possession and use of CBD products for specific conditions, but not cannabis products containing higher levels of THC. In those states with CBD legal protections, the substance is considered federally illegal by the DEA. Only six states (Idaho, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Indiana, and West Virginia) still consider every part of the cannabis plant to be illegal. The Controlled Substance Act does not contain the terms “Cannabidiol,” “Cannabinoids” or “Hemp”. In order for these terms to be included in the CSA and officially become law, it would take an act of Congress, passed by the House and Senate, and signed by the President.

Will CBD get me High?

CBD does not have any of the psychoactive properties associated with marijuana and will not get the user “high.” Industrial hemp with less than 0.3% THC content can yield high-quality CBD that is 99% pure.

Will I fail a drug test?

Many CBD products have no THC in them at all, and all CBD products derived from industrial hemp have less than 0.3% THC. There are many factors that can determine whether a person can pass a drug test making them unpredictable, but the trace amounts of THC found in CBD products is very small.

How is CBD Taken?

CBD can be taken orally by placing oil drops under the tongue allowing it to absorb quickly, or ingested in capsules and edibles. CBD can also be added to ointments and lotions for topical use or inhaled using a vaporizer. How a person ingests CBD plays a significant role in how quickly CBD will enter the system. Using a vaporizer is the quickest and most efficient way.

What is the difference between Isolate and Full Spectrum?

Full Spectrum products contain CBD as well as other cannabinoids and terpenes. CBD Isolate is 99% pure isolated CBD. Cannabinoids will have a different effect on every individual.

Are there side effects to CBD use?

Hemp and CBD are both considered safe and should not produce any adverse side effects in most people. That being said, everyone processes CBD and other dietary supplements differently, and it is always recommended to consult with a physician before adding any supplement to your diet.

Is CBD Oil Legal in all 50 States?

APPLICATION AND DOSAGE

Wow many drops of CBD oil do I need?

The ideal amount of CBD oil is different for everyone, depending on your individual needs and lifestyle. For novices, we recommend starting with 5% CBD oil and using 1 to 3 pumps in the morning and 1 to 3 pumps of spray in the evening. In general, it is recommended to start with a small amount that can be increased slowly. You can do it either by increasing the number of CBD oil pumps or by increasing the CBD oil concentration, e.g. instead of 5% oil you are going for a 10% oil.

The daily amount of 70 mg should not be exceeded. For most people, however, even small amounts are sufficient to achieve the desired effect.

DEFINITIONS

What is CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is one of over 104 active chemical compounds (or ‘cannabinoids’) in the cannabis plant. It’s the second-most well-researched cannabinoid, behind THC. CBD is extracted from the stems and leaves of the plant. Our products are made from industrial hemp that is grown following the regulations of the EU.

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil consists of various components: The basis is always a vegetable base oil, such as olive oil, pumpkin seed oil or hemp seed oil, which is enriched with the hemp extract CBD. CBD oils are divided into full-spectrum, broad-spectrum and isolate. Full-spectrum and broad-spectrum oils can have a legally permitted maximum value (less than 0.2%) of THC. Isolates are THC-free. CBD oil has no intoxicating, i.e. no psychoactive effect.

What is the difference between CBD isolate and CBD full-spectrum?

A CBD isolate is a purified hemp extract that can be extracted from the hemp plant or produced synthetically in laboratories. Therefore it contains more CBD than a CBD full-spectrum oil and no additive cannabinoids or other plant substances.

A full-spectrum CBD oil contains all important components of the hemp plant: cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids like CBD und CBDa, CBN, CBG, CBC and many more. Therefore you can benefit from the so-called “entourage effect” which declares that all active ingredients of the hemp plant interact with each other and intensify the effect. This ensures a particularly high bioavailability. A full spectrum oil also contains small traces of THC (<0.2%).

What makes CBD so expensive?

The complex and work-intensive manufacturing process of CBD products justifies the price. Here you can find some facts about our production:

  • Hemp plants are grown according to GMP guidelines
  • Professional and gentle harvesting machines
  • Special laboratory equipment is needed
  • A huge amount of raw materials is needed to produce small amounts of CBD

What does the percentage of CBD mean?

The percentage shows you the amount of CBD in your product. For example, oil with “10 ml” and “10%” contains 1000 mg of CBD. The most common unit of measurement for CBD oils is 10ml. The following conversion formula applies: CBD content (percentage) * 1000 / 10ml content. Example with a 10% CBD Oil: 10 * 1000 / 10 = 1000 mg

What is a carrier oil?

Every CBD oil needs a carrier oil as a base. Those are vegetable oils that are used to dilute essential oils and absolutes and “carry” them to your skin. This is necessary because essential oils are potent and can cause irritation when applied directly to your skin. The most frequently used oils are:

  • Hempseed oil
  • Olive oil
  • MCT coconut oil

What are phenols in CBD?

Phenols are aromatic compounds of the (hemp) plant. They are a form of reactive, acidic molecules where a hydroxyl group is attached to hydrocarbon, and some are potent antioxidants. They are being used in full-spectrum CBD oils along with other hemp plant components such as terpenes and flavonoids.

What are the benefits of the Cannabis Sativa strain?

The industrial hemp that our products are made of belongs to the Cannabis Sativa Linnaeus strain. This strain is known for its euphoric and stimulating effect.

What is hemp seed oil?

Hemp seed oil is a natural product made of cold-pressed hemp seeds. The hemp seed oil contains a lot of essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid and gamma-Linolenic acid (GLA). Hemp seed oil is not only the richest natural source of omega 6 & 3 fatty acids but even contains them in the ideal 3:1 ratio for the skin. Therefore, hemp seed oil can ideally be used for cosmetics.

Other ingredients are:

  • Minerals
  • Vitamins A, C, E, B (B1, B2, B3, B6, B12)
  • Omega-3, -6, -9 fatty acids
  • Hemp protein
  • Beta-carotene

What are terpenes?

Terpenes are a large class of organic compounds that are produced by a variety of plants. They are very fragrant and responsible for the aromatic diversity of cannabis plants. This is why they are also very popular in aromatherapy. Like cannabinoids, terpenes interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system. They each have their individual properties and combined with CBD they can produce the “Entourage Effect”.

Most hemp plants contain these terpenes: myrcene, limonene, pinene, linalool, humulene and caryophyllene. In nature, terpenes protect the plant from pests and attract pollinators with their odour. Our CBD vape cartridges contain aromatic terpene profiles in many different varieties.

What is THC and how is it different from CBD?

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychotropic component of the cannabis plant. It is the chemical that affects your mind and makes you “high” while CBD (cannabidiol) is non-psychoactive. Our HERBLIZ CBD full-spectrum oils contain very low levels of THC (<0.2%) and our CBD isolates contain pure CBD without any traces of THC. All our products are 100% legal, safe and will not make you feel "high".

BODY FUNCTIONS WITH CBD

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system is a component of the human nervous system. It consists mainly of the cannabinoid receptors CB1, CB2 and CB3. These receptors are responsible for the release and transport of vital messenger substances.

The endocannabinoid system regulates various functions and is mainly responsible for keeping the body in balance. The body produces its own cannabinoids (endocannabinoids) for this purpose. Because the plant cannabinoids are so similar to the body’s own cannabinoids, they can interact with them and form a symbiosis.

Cannabidiol can offer protection against oxidative cell stress and is thus optimally suited for cosmetics. In combination with other natural ingredients, CBD can provide more well-being and relaxation in wellness products.

What does “Entourage Effect” mean?

The entourage effect describes the symbiotic relationship between all compounds in cannabis plants where the resulting effect is greater than the sum of the individual parts. The “entourage” of diverse plant chemicals is what can provide stronger impacts on our body than an isolated pure CBD product. We offer a variety of full-spectrum CBD oils that make use of this entourage effect.
